SCORING &
LEADERBOARDS

HOW IT ALL WORKS

A New Take on Competition

Whether you're a single-digit handicap or playing with an index for the first time, our fun twist on competitive golf allows members of all skill levels to participate in tournaments when and where they want.

Unlike traditional one-day events with fixed fields determined in advance, AGS fields are variable on a weekly basis, both in terms of the total number of participants and their individual handicaps. As a result, we've created a unique scoring structure for both weekly and season-long leaderboards, ensuring fair competition to test all members.

Tournament Scoring & Points System

2.jpg

To start, simply play an 18-hole round at the designated host venue, then use the AGS app to post your hole-by-hole results. From there, your net score will be determined based on your Handicap Index at the time of play and the course slope/rating from the tees you chose to play.

Upon completion of the event, all participants will be evenly distributed among three net flights based on their Handicap Index, ensuring that you'll only be competing against golfers of a similar skill level while also creating flights of equal size. The specific ranges of each flight may vary week to week, as will the total number of competitors.

Points are awarded to all participants based on the size of the field: larger fields = more points awarded from 1st to last place. As members are equally distributed across all three flights, a 3rd place finish in Net A will earn the same amount of points as a 3rd place finish in Net B and Net C.

Points earned by all participants in weekly net competitions then flow into a season-long leaderboard for each AGS region, with three separate tiers based on how often you can play. Click the Season-Long Standings tab to learn more.

Round Verification and Tournament Management

Our flexibly-scheduled tournament play is a bit different than what most golfers are used to. To ensure the integrity of our weekly and season-long competitions, AGS has collaborated with our Allied Golf Association partners to operate a five-point, data-driven system to manage our leaderboards. Combining round verification from playing partners with automated HDCP reviews used to identify trends and red flags, the entire process is transparent and visible to membership through weekly reports and publicly-facing files. To learn more about how we manage our competitions, see below.

Leaderboard Integrity

STEP ONE:

Partner Verification

Scores better than Net Even Par require verification from a playing partner, information we collect in the app when posting your score. AGS members can verify playing partners twice per season; non-members only once. Scores from solo rounds or without verification from a playing partner won't be counted on our leaderboards.

Benefits

Benefits of an AGS Membership

  • What does it cost to join AGS?
A standard membership costs $100 annually, with an $85 senior membership available for golfers aged 55 and over. We also offer a Premium Membership for $150, which includes access to playing opportunities at various private courses in your region. To learn more about membership and the benefits of each tier, please click here to visit our Membership page.
  • What does it cost to play in a Tour event?
Greens fees for each Tour event are almost always identical to the rack rate at the course for that given tee time. For example: if the weekday AM rate at Golf Course X is $75, the same tee time in our app will be $75. If they have a weekend PM rate at $65, our rate will be the same. You can choose whichever tee time(s) both fit your schedule and your budget.
  • When can I play a Tour event? Are there fixed days/times?
Each week-long AGS Tour event is hosted Monday through Sunday at a designated public course. Book any open tee time during that week-long window and post one score to qualify for the individual tournament leaderboard, as well as the season-long standings. Play in as many or as few tournaments as your schedule allows.
  • What is the playing format for a week-long tournament?
All events are 18-hole, stroke play competitions, with four divisions at each event: one gross flight for golfers with HDCPs up to 6.0, and three net divisions for golfers between 6.1-36 HI. The specific ranges of each flight are determined upon the end of the tournament, breaking participants into three even groups. To learn more about our tournament formatting, click here.
  • Can I play without a GHIN® number/Handicap ID?
No. A valid Handicap ID is required to play on the AGS Tour and its annual servicing is included in your annual membership fee. If you have an existing Handicap ID, you may use that number. If you register for AGS using the email tied to your GHIN/HDCP ID, our app will automatically make the connection, otherwise, simply enter your number in the applicable field at registration.
  • How do I book tee times?
Members are able to book tee times for the majority of Tour events directly through the AGS app. Tee sheets for each event are available on the event profile page and remain open exclusively to Tour members up until the course opens the tee sheet to the general public. When the exclusive booking period ends, members are encouraged to book directly with the host course, either through their website (a link will be provided on the event page at that time) or by calling the pro shop directly. Please note that select Tour courses have tee sheets which remain open year round and as such, all booking for those events will go through the host course. Tee times booked through the app will need to be paid in full at the time of booking.
  • How does scoring work?
All AGS events include four flights for competition. A Flight includes all golfers with a Handicap Index of 6.0 or lower at the time of play, who compete in a Gross tournament. B, C, and D Flights consist of an even number of golfers competing in net competition, which is determined at the end of each event week based on the composition of Handicap Indexes in that week's event. Upon completion of their round, members post their gross hole-by-hole score directly in our app. Leveraging industry-leading scoring technology powered by Golf Genius, our leaderboards automatically populate gross and net scores to display one's performance relative to their handicap. At the end of the week, points are awarded based on one's finishing position in their net flight. For a full description on our Scoring and Leaderboards, click here.
