RESOURCES
A standard membership costs $100 annually, with an $85 senior membership available for golfers aged 55 and over. We also offer a Premium Membership for $150, which includes access to playing opportunities at various private courses in your region. To learn more about membership and the benefits of each tier, please click here to visit our Membership page.
Greens fees for each event are almost always identical to the rack rate at the course for that given tee time. For example: if the weekday AM rate at Golf Course X is $75, the same tee time in our app will be $75. If they have a weekend PM rate at $65, our rate will be the same. You can choose whichever tee time(s) both fit your schedule and your budget.
The Amateur Golf Society features between 20-30 events in a dozen (and counting) regions throughout the USA. Traveling to a city that features an AGS Tour schedule? Great! All AGS members are welcome to play in every region, no matter where you call home.
Click here to see if AGS is coming to a city near you in 2025.
All AGS members will have access to events in all regions, and no minimum commitment is required to be able to participate. Whether you can play once a month, multiple times per week, or anywhere in between, AGS memberships are designed to be a complement to your other golfing opportunities.
All AGS events include four flights for competition. A Flight includes all golfers with a Handicap Index of 6.0 or lower at the time of play, who compete in a Gross tournament. B, C, and D Flights consist of an even number of golfers competing in net competition, which is determined at the end of each event week based on the composition of Handicap Indexes in that week's event. Upon completion of their round, members post their gross hole-by-hole score directly in our app. Leveraging industry-leading scoring technology powered by Golf Genius, our leaderboards automatically populate gross and net scores to display one's performance relative to their handicap. At the end of the week, points are awarded based on one's finishing position in their net flight.

Our tiered leaderboard structure allows you to compete amongst those with a similar number of playing opportunities.
Play up to five times and compete on our Best 3 Leaderboard, where you can drop up to your worst two results.
Play up to eleven rounds and compete on our Best 6 Leaderboard, dropping your worst five results.
If you can play more than eleven events, you will compete on our Best 12 Leaderboard, keeping your best twelve results throughout the season.
This leaderboard structure ensures a level playing field for all members, and allows you to use AGS as a complement to your other golf experiences.
Each week-long AGS event is hosted Monday through Sunday at a participating public course. Book any open tee time during that week-long window and post one score to qualify for the individual tournament leaderboard, as well as the season-long standings. Play in as many or as few tournaments as your schedule allows. Click here to learn more about where we play.
All AGS events are 18-hole, stroke play format. A Gross Flight is available for all golfers with a Handicap Index of 6.0 or lower, and all other golfers are divided into three Net flights each week. Net Scoring allows golfers of all ability levels to participate equitably using their updated Handicap Index. You can learn more about our Important Rules of Play in the menu tab above.
No. A valid Handicap ID is required to play in AGS events and is included in your annual membership fee. This allows our members to compete equitably and track their progress throughout the season.
Yes, as you’ll need to be a member of AGS in order to compete on our leaderboards. There are many other benefits of your AGS membership, including advanced tee time access, discounts and perks from sponsors and partners, opportunities to win prizes on and off the golf course, and more! You'll be able to tie an existing Handicap ID to your account during in-app registration for the 2025 AGS season.
In order to establish a Handicap Index, you'll need to post 54 holes of historical scores in your digital profile, a link for which will be sent to you upon registration. This can be any combination of 9 or 18-hole scores from the last ten years, and we recommend you doing this prior to playing in your first AGS event so you can compete in the appropriate flight.
However, this is not mandatory; you can use scores from AGS events to establish this handicap index, and you will be placed in the A Flight as a “scratch” golfer until your Handicap Index is generated. Once you have an index, we will automatically sync your information to our platform. You should receive an email from GHINProfile@usga.org with the subject ACTION REQUIRED: Complete Your GHIN Digital Profile! inviting you to register for an account with GHIN.com after completing your AGS member registration, but please contact us directly if you fail to receive this confirmation. Please note: if you register as a golfer in our Chicago market, your email will come directly from the Chicago District Golf Association (CDGA) and not GHIN.com.
All AGS events feature competition in four flights based on your Handicap Index at the time of play. Those with a Handicap Index of 6.0 or lower will compete in a Gross Flight, and golfers between 6.1 and 36.0 H.I. will be split into three equal flights at the end of each event week. Based on your finish in your flight each week, points will be awarded and accrued toward our season-long points race.
As your Handicap Index® changes throughout the season, you may move up or down between flights. This will be done automatically prior to each time you tee it up.
Note: While those with a Handicap Index of 36.1+ are welcome to join and participate with AGS, 36.0 is the highest playing handicap for all events.
Our default setting is to post all of your AGS rounds to the USGA platform automatically. If you would prefer for us not to post your AGS Tour scores, you may adjust your settings in your member profile in the AGS app once you register.
The best practice is to post all non-AGS rounds to your digital profile (GHIN or CDGA for members of our Chicago Tour) in order for your Handicap Index® to remain accurate.
Members are able to book tee times for the majority of AGS events directly through the AGS app. Tee sheets for each event are available on the event profile page and remain open exclusively to our members up until the course opens the tee sheet to the general public. When the exclusive booking period ends, members are encouraged to book directly with the host course, either through their website (a link will be provided on the event page at that time) or by calling the pro shop directly.
Please note that select Tour courses have tee sheets which remain open year-round and as such, all booking for those events will go through the host course. Tee times booked through the app will need to be paid in full at the time of booking.
While it is not required to book tee times in advance, at select venues in each market, AGS Tour members have the exclusive opportunity to access tee sheets before the general public which can help to ensure members get the tee times they need to fit their schedule.
No, tee times can be booked via the AGS app for the entire group. When selecting a time, the booking party can choose from a drop down list of any Tour member, or simply select “Guest”. A guest can be a Tour member to be determined or a non-Tour member interested in joining the group. As a reminder, all tee times booked through the AGS app will need to be paid in full at the time of booking.
You can play at any time during the week-long window, either by yourself, with a partner or as a threesome or foursome. AGS members can find other members to play with in two effective ways:
Visit the AGS Player Pairing Program within the AGS app, allowing you to find playing partners based on similar interests, affiliations, and scheduling preferences
Stopping by our virtual clubhouse on our Discord Server, which allows for golfers to connect and share their availability for an individual tournament or on a recurring basis
Please note that all rounds better than Net E will require independent verification from a playing partner to be accepted on our leaderboards, so even if you are the only AGS member in your group, you'll need to secure contact information from fellow golfers for AGS to attest. You can learn more about our Round Verification process here.
Given the unique format of our competition, maintaining the integrity of our leaderboards is of utmost priority for our team. Thanks to a strategic partnership with multiple Allied Golf Associations throughout the country, we have access to a suite of handicap management tools and software designed to identify anomalies in member scoring, allowing us to flag and remove scores that we deem to be questionable in nature. The specifics of this process–including our requirement for independent verification of top scores each week–are outlined in great detail here.
Over the past couple years, we kept detailed logs of all rounds better than net even par, as well as the total number of rounds deemed “exceptional” by the USGA (net -7 or better). Only 0.41% of all posted rounds qualified in 2024, well below the 1% expected rate. Additionally, 12.5% of all rounds were posted at net -1 or better, also significantly below the expected rate (20%).
Finally, by facilitating connections of playing partners through our Player Pairing Program in the AGS app, we encourage self-policing and reporting from our membership, with a Player Committee overseeing all posted scores. Should the committee deem a member’s results as questionable, we reserve the right to have them play with a committee member or remove them from the membership entirely.
Post your gross scores through our app on a hole-by-hole basis or after the completion of your round. Our partners at Golf Genius provide the Amateur Golf Society with industry-leading scoring technology that will automatically populate your gross and net score to our leaderboards.
Upon completion of each event on Sunday evenings, every golfer is divided into one Gross Flight (6.0 Handicap Index or lower) and three evenly-distributed Net Flights. Golfers earn points according to their finish at that event, and these points are then added to our regional leaderboards, used to determine season-long prizes and Players of the Year.
Absolutely! When you complete registration, you will select your home region as your default, but you are welcome to play in any event in any region. Points earned in an event will be applied to that region's full-season leaderboard, so you can compete in multiple regions if you find yourself teeing it up in more than one AGS location.
A Major is played in exactly the same format as regular AGS events, but is more heavily weighted in our points system and as such, has more importance in the season-long standings. Each region has their own Majors, but as with all other AGS weeks, members are welcome to play in any of these tournaments regardless of which region is considered their home.
All Amateur Golf Society player policies can be found in the Important Rules of Play section of our Resources page, and are also listed within the AGS app. There are a few worth highlighting:
AGS is designed to be fun AND competitive, so we’ve created a format that delivers on both. First and foremost: you must putt out on every hole and you can not take mulligans after a poorly executed shot. If you prefer not to count every stroke, just designate your round as "Social" in the app and make sure your account is set to "Do Not Post To GHIN" so our system doesn't add it to your posted rounds used to determine your HDCP Index for tournament play.
The maximum score on any hole is net double bogey; rather than attempting to calculate this manually while in play, if you post a 10 in Golf Genius, the system will autocorrect down to the appropriate max number for leaderboard purposes.
If you play with a fellow member who isn't following the rules--either by scooping putts or not accurately counting penalties strokes--please alert the AGS team via email so that we can take the appropriate steps.
Golfers in our Net competitions are welcome to play from whichever tee box best suits their level of play. Players can select their tees within the AGS app when they post their score, and all course rating data will be automatically applied to determine the correct net score. Golfers may play different tees week in and week out based on a course’s length, difficulty, etc., and our app will account for this automatically. Note: Golfers in our Gross Flight (6.0 H.I. or lower) will be expected to play from a specific set of tees each week, which will be determined by AGS staff and our Allied Golf Association partners. These tees will be communicated and distributed to all AGS members ahead of the 2025 season.
Please visit the Rules of Play tab above for detailed information on all AGS Tour policies.
No. Play on your schedule, as many or as few times as you’d like. AGS is designed to complement your other golf experiences, and our tiered leaderboard structure allows you to compete alongside those who have similar amounts of playing opportunities.
Wow, can we have your schedule? While you are welcome to play as much golf as you’d like at participating courses, you may only post one score per weekly AGS event.
You bet! Anyone can register and play on Tour as often as they like. Many private club members use AGS as a way to get advanced access to tee sheets at the area’s top public courses, where they can play with their friends without incurring pricey guest fees at their home track.
Cancelation policies for each AGS event are determined by the host course; many partners require 24 hour notice and AGS reserves the right to deny refunds for requests made less than 24 hours in advance.
With respect to rain, if the course closes due to weather, you will have an opportunity to receive a refund, apply that greens fee to another day that week, or if the host course allows, take a rain check for a later date. If the course does not close, but you choose not to play, we are unable to provide refunds for any round booked with the Tour app.
Refunding/crediting of greens fees will be handled on an individual basis. Please contact us at info@amateurgolfsociety.com for more information.
The AGS app is what’s called a progressive web application (PWA) and does not require a download from the app store. However, the app functions identically to a traditional mobile app when added to your home screen. To do this, you can click the icon in your browser tab or by hitting the center icon on your mobile browser and selecting “Add to Home Screen”.
A quick tutorial can be found here and once added to the home screen of your mobile device, you'll be good to go!
